Human Rights News Bulletin

The Human Rights News Bulletin is an electronic newsletter  that provides data and information  on various human rights violations in India. It was initiated by the Indian Social Institute  in April 1999 keeping in view  the Institute’s vision, mission, goals and objectives. The bulletin promotes and preserves human rights especially of the discriminated and the marginalized in society.   Apart from the main target groups like dalits, tribals, minorities and women, it covers about 93 other subjects where information is collected, documented and disseminated. The bulletin is made available to social action groups, human rights activists and general public through the ISI website by sending required links using e-mail.

This Bulletin is a source of quick information dissemination via e-mail  to thousands of people throughout the world. On a regular basis, it provides information on thematic issues of human rights violations along with the regular current information package.  It is heartening to know from the feedbacks received from the subscribers that most of them have extensively used the reports available in our news bulletin to further augment their campaign and action.  Several human rights groups and thinkers both in India and abroad have admitted that the information received has enormous significance in their campaigns against HR violations.  These efforts have been a part of the movement for the promotion of human rights nationally and internationally.

The news bulletin e-mails the titles with hyperlinks in order to view and download the full text directly from the Institute’s website.  Presently, more than 5000 organisations/individuals are getting this daily bulletin free of cost throughout the world.

Human Rights Documentation

The Human Rights Documentation involves compiling the data and information on human rights violations in India. It also collects and documents newspaper clippings such as news items and articles on important social issues. The Institute initiated to form the Human Rights Documentation and the Human Rights News Bulletin in 1999 as part of the broader vision and mission of the Institute. The Human Rights electronic news bulletin is part of the endeavour undertaken by the Human Rights & Law Unit. .

The documentation collects, documents and disseminates information on more than 100 subjects including the target groups - dalits, tribals, minorities and women. The data/information is collected from a wide range of sources, including nine newspapers and the electronic media. On an average, 25 to 30 paper clippings are collected on various subjects everyday. It has also developed an electronic documentation where data and information on various subjects are readily available from 1999 onwards and the same can be made available through e-mail on request.  From time to time it publishes important data and information on various subjects on the ISI website and flashes the required links to thousands of e-mail subscribers. The Human Rights Documentation also maintains hard copies of these paper clippings.
