The enormous growth in the information society has made the world a global village and there is an apparent death of distance. The convergence of computing and communicating has also brought a radical change in the way libraries and information centres have been imparting information to the users. There is a paradigm shift from information-based services to knowledge based services. Knowledge is considered as the most powerful fact in the development of the economy of a nation and is the fourth wave experienced by human lives.
