Gender Workshops in Delhi University colleges
Workshop on Human Rights Awareness in the Educational Institute
Gender Workshops in Delhi University college
The main aim of these workshops is to understand what is perceived as gender concepts by the youth and how they contextualize it in their own lives. This as a process is to educate and increase the awareness of students on gender issues and get to know of their problems to discuss them. More specifically, the program would aim at: gender sensitization of participants, developing gender responsiveness by enabling participants to examine and address gender biases and discrimination within the family, organization and the community, address the queries of the students regarding gender, dwell into the legal matters related to women.

The project has two major components. One is to get the perception of girl students on gender concepts, the way they perceive gender issues in their own lives and how they relate to this understanding in a wider context of outside world. This information is compiled through a structured questionnaire, which will give us an idea about the same. The second component in this program is of capacity building through interactive sessions with girl students. The workshop will involve talk on important gender concepts and women’s movement, clippings of documentaries or films related to the issue, group discussions and legal awareness. Through these workshops we would like to gain perceptions of the learners (their experiences- achievements, constraints) which help to understand their mind set and formulate our further programs accordingly and make the gender component a part of education through these workshops.

Colleges/NGOs/Institutes interested in such workshops are free to contact the women’s unit of Indian Social Institute.

SOCIAL SECURITY
Responding to a prolonged nationwide debate and a growing need for social security for unorganised workers, a group of 14 network organisations working on Labour rights, Dalit rights, Women’s rights, Tribal and marginalized people came together and formed a consortium to pursue their right to social security, to campaign for awareness, to forge alliance with trade unions, people’s movements and other organisations and to put pressure on the government to pass a comprehensive social security law.

The 14 organisations that formed the consortium were: Fedina and Women’s Voice from Bangalore; NAFRE, CEC, NCC-USW, Delhi Forum, NCDHR, HRLN, PWESCR and ISI from Delhi; YUVA from Mumbai, NIWCYD from Nagpur; BIRSA from Ranchi and LAYA from Vishakapatnam.
