Through a practical pedagogy, the Institute hopes to support/promote/ advocate sustainable development strategies and make interventions so as to help evolve a more just, democratic and secular society where the  rights of all are realized and fostered. Combining activism and academic research, the Institute is committed to research creating synergy between various sectors in the development process. As important instruments of exchange and dissemination of knowledge, trainings, workshops and seminars are part of the ongoing empowerment process that the Institute is engaged in with various communities and civil society.
